Who Said Being Creative was Easy?

So about that push I talked about last year on June 25, 2015? Yeah…you really don’t know what’s going to happen when you have a big family in the mix. I will say though, I have done a lot of creative things since June of last year even if I didn’t have time to post them here and share with everyone.

It’s sad that I so look forward to being creative and then it often slips through the cracks into the canyon of life…but at least my creativity is always with me.

First, let me recap what I wanted to do and see how much of it I actually did…

That was a lot of fun. I had a goal, and I nailed it. I even got my free book for winning. Anastasia joined me, and she did awesome too. It was a blast going to the library and picking out the books every couple of weeks. I had to read five, and I read some really good books. I added them below (and linked the image to my Goodreads account if you want to see what else I read last year).

Summer Reading 2015

They were all great books. Very different from each other, and I enjoyed them all very much. I forgot how much I loved reading the romance genre (And Nora Roberts knows how it’s done!).

Curious how I managed to take the kids (including the baby) with me to the library? Here’s how…

It did not turn out as well as I had hoped. Did we write? We did. I Pantsed it, and it was fun, but we only managed to write a little bit (We includes myself, Samantha and Anastasia). But that leads me into NaNoWriMo 2015.

I had the same group of girls minus one (she had too much on her plate), and one Newbie, Gionna. We had a blast. We met once a week (a couple times we met twice) and the girls just BLEW AWAY their goals. Everyone got a second goal, and everyone nailed it too.

At the end of NaNo, I gave out gifts this time. Amanda got the Writer’s Award for 2014, which was an inked pen, and Ava got the Writer’s Award for 2015. Amanda got it for rocking her 10k words last year, and Ava wrote over 9k this year. She was a machine just like Amanda.

I also gave everyone a little gift to help them with their creative: a little beaded bracelet with a special charm with their initial. I called it their Creative Talisman. It came in a little jar. I told everyone to take it out if their creativity ever failed them, and they needed some inspiration (I will try to get a picture of one to share).

Everyone was so happy and loved our second NaNoWriMo Finale party. I had so much fun with these girls. Always such an inspiration. So many amazing stories. Dancer stories. Talking dogs that were kidnapped. Superhero dogs that were dealing with bullies. A world much like Once Upon a Time. And a girl who was invisible because she had no confidence because of bullies and her best friend had to help her get it back. Love it.

Here are some shots from our last Write-In. I’ll get some from the party too. (They aren’t on my computer. They are in the abyss of my fiance’s computer.)

What about me you ask? I had a ROUGH time. Just take a look…

I was so behind! It was hard with work and with the baby, and then there was that week I wrote NOT ONE WORD. I had a business trip in between, and that didn’t help. One day, I had to drive to CT for work, and on the way there and on the way back (about 3 hours each way) I speech-to-text’d my story. 12,000 words in one day! See the jump? That was exhausting but thrilling 🙂

I had a lot more to do, and it was stressful; but in the end, my NaNoNites all cheered me on and inspired me, and I hit my goal…on the way home, on the last day, driving, speech to texting, right before I walked in the door….

It was a triumph for me for sure.

My final words to them for NaNoWriMo 2015:

“So, my beautiful and wonderful and amazing and inspiring NaNoNites…. I am so incredibly proud of all of you. Every year I listen to your stories and am simply wow’d at your creativity. This year was no different. So many words… So many word sprints… So many catchups… You all are so inspiring. Thank you for rooting me on and giving me the push to make it to 50,000. You don’t know how much that meant to me. I’ll always keep your support with me as MY creative talisman ❤️ Please enjoy the final 6 NaNoToons… one of them had me crying yesterday because it was so beautiful. It made me think of how important it is for us to push each other and support each other. We can do anything when we inspire. Even write over 12,000 words in one day 😉 I love you all, and I can’t wait for next year!”

More Creating, Painting, Drawing? CHECK, CHECK, CHECK!

On January 18, 2016, I created something new. I wanted to make sure that I was having one-on-one time with the kids. It was important to me and very needed. With so much going on, we needed to find time to just be us together. And so I created KrimeTime, SaneTime and AnneTime.

KrimeTime (Kristopher + Nenah although I stretched it to an ‘M’ for my real first name)
SaneTime (Samantha + Nenah)
AnneTime (Anastasia +Nenah)

Every week, I get to spend at least one hour with each of them. Although it hasn’t happened every single week because some weeks are crazier than others, for the most part we have. I have been coming up with fun crafts for us to do, and they have so much fun 🙂

I’ll share more pictures in other posts, so for now, here’s a quick collage of some fun stuff we’ve done.

So, creativity has definitely been moving along, just need to keep it going and keep sharing!

Keep doing what you love and love doing it.

Until next time,

Enjoy. And Reed.
